Therapists: Please help us out by posting your services.
Clients: Please help us out by posting your interest in finding a therapist.

Therapists: You can post your name, location, and credentials (including training with Susan Anderson) so that prospective abandonment clients can get in touch with you. If applicable, mention your experience in guiding people through AKeRU, Swirl process, and Swan Lessons, etc. It would be helpful to provide information that allows clients to validate your professional credentials - an agency you work for, or perhaps the website of a state licensing board or professional organization. Dear Colleagues,

Bounce your cases off of me and I’ll lend my impression or respond with strategies for dealing with the powerful emotional dynamics of abandonment.

We’ll attempt to:

Distinguish normal (albeit intense) abandonment grief from the onset of major depression

Discern acute abandonment crisis from chronic patterns such as mood or anxiety disorders

Identify acute symptoms of abandonment trauma, including:

Re-emerging symbiotic feelings
Increased risk-taking
Neglected self-care
Anorexia
Suicidality
Panic
Need to self-medicate
Borderline regression and other forms of acting out

Identify chronic symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder of Abandonment, (see "Journey from Abandonment…" for complete list of abandonment’s posttraumatic symptoms) including:

Difficulty forming primary relationships
Rejection-sensitivity
Poor self-image
Addiction
Co-addiction
Chronic insecurity.

Share techniques for working through our client’s tendency to be stuck in abandoholic or abandophobic patterns, or in one the five stages of abandonment grief.

Share ways of dealing with the intense transference our clients exhibit during their abandonment crises including:

Over-dependence upon therapist
Hostility
Missing appointments
Unrealistic expectations toward therapeutic process, etc.

Clients often temporarily revert to default defenses, i.e. becoming over-controlling toward the abandoner, punitive, self-abdicating. How to move the still fragile, narcissistically injured patient out of protest, blame, and self-denial, and into emotional self-reliance and forward motion.
